By early November, the International Music Festival will be over, no doubt leaving local audiences with withdrawal symptoms for more great live entertainment.  And we won’t have to wait long, as two exciting new plays premiere at the Macao Cultural Centre in November and December, offering the public a chance to appreciate top quality theatrical productions made right here in Macau.

“A Spot of Murder” is a comedy directed by Hong Kong master Chan Suk Yi featuring some of Macau’s best actors, while Brotherhood Art Theatre will present “The Fantasticks”, an acclaimed off Broadway musical.

“The Fantasticks”
an intense love story for this
Christmas–December 23 to 24

The pure wonders of the first love will overcome any obstacle. “The Fantasticks” is a fresh and funny musical telling the story of a young man who falls for the girl next door but is separated from her by a wall built by their parents. Hailed as “a Gem” by The Wall Street Journal, the musical has been staged nearly 20,000 times off Broadway for more than 50 years, making it the world’s longest running musical and achieving a status of international classic. This Christmas the Brotherhood Art Theatre will take audiences through a moonlit magical evening in a pulsating call for love that resounds on each boy’s heart and boosts every girl’s fantasy.

“A Spot of Murder”
a crime comedy – November 29 to December 1

“A Spot of Murder” is an hilarious performance adapted from a play written by British playwright Geoff Bamber and directed by Hong Kong comedy master Chan Suk Yi. Performed in Cantonese, it is the story of a fading theatre diva who calls the police to investigate her own murder, before it actually happens. When the inspector assigned for the case arrives on the scene in an isolated country house, he finds a corpse and is confronted with a bunch of suspects and many questions: Did she die of fright after an alarming tarot reading? Has she committed suicide in a bout of thespian depression, or has she really been murdered?
