“Evening Concert” Series has been organized since 2003, and every year, the organizer carefully selects the performance venue as well as outstanding local and foreign musicians, aiming to bring residents and tourists together in a relaxed mood to enjoy fantastic music in a beautiful outdoor setting. This year, six concerts will take place at the Taipa-Houses Museum Amphitheater, with musicians from Croatia, France, Portugal, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macau.
Croatian-born Ines Trickovic kicked off this year’s series just last month, presenting a wonderful show together with Croatian guitarist Joe Pandur and musician E:CH from Hong Kong. A self-taught vocalist and recording artist, Ines has participated in numerous musical projects world wide. Last year, she recorded Runjic in Blue, considered by critics as one of the great Croatian “avant-garde” Jazz albums of the year.
The second concert in the series, “Timeless Fusion Party (TFP) in Evening Concert” will take place on June 27, featuring the instrumental fusion-jazz group TFP, the winner of Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award. TFP’s music is fresh and unique as they skillfully combine western groove and eastern melodies to create a completely different kind of fusion music.
“Az Samad & Kirsten Long in Evening Concert” will be the third concert on July 25. Az Samad, an acclaimed Malaysian acoustic finger style guitarist and composer, will perform together with Jazz vocalist Kirsten Long creating a superb duet of guitar and vocalist that will certainly give the audience an experience to remember.
The fourth evening concert will present “Tuna de Medicina do Porto” from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University on August 15. A traditional musical performing group formed by university students in Portugal in 1991, Tuna combine adapted popular songs from the 1920’s to 1940’s with their latest original pieces.
The fifth concert on September 19 will be presented by two famous local bands, Soler and Blademark. In the past, both were well-known for their hard rock styles, however this year, especially for the evening concert, they will re-arrange their songs and perform with softer acoustic sounds.
This fantastic series will close on October 31 with the performance of Le Syndicat du Chrome from France. The group’s artistic base is theatrical, reacting to the audience and engaging them in playful exchanges and games while performing their original instrumental Afro Funk repertory. Definitely a lot of fun!
This year, for the convenience of the audiences, all the concerts are scheduled on Saturdays, from 5:30pm to 7pm. Admittance is free, and all locals and tourists are welcome.
