The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture said on Saturday that the 1st International Women's Bienniale elevates the territory as a world centre for tourism and leisure, but there is still "a lot to do".

On the eve of the closing of the biennale, Alexis Tam accompanied 50 members of the Macau Women's Association on a guided tour of the exhibition, at the Macau Museum of Art.

On the sidelines of the event, the secretary told Lusa News Agency that there is still "a lot to do" regarding Macau's role as a platform for cultural exchange among various countries, but he assured that the government has been very supportive of the cultural sector. For Alexis Tam, an example of this support is the cultural forum between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, which will be held in July. The secretary declared that it will start as a "small forum", but within two years it will become a "big" forum.

"We are going to make a Sino-Portuguese film festival and hold exhibitions by artists from Portuguese-speaking countries, conferences and other activities," he said.

The secretary also highlighted the recent trip to the capitals of Thailand and Cambodia, where he accompanied the Chief Executive in several meetings with the leaders of the two countries.  According to the cultural official, the ministers of both countries stressed the importance of Macau as a platform for exchange and culture.

Organized by Albergue SCMand the Macau Museum of Art, ArtFem Women Artists – Macau's 1st International Biennial brought together paintings by more than 100 artists. ArtFem Women Artists will be back in 2020, according to the president Albergue, Carlos Marreiros.
