The Heart of the Sword

by

One of the nominees for the Best Actor Award at this year's Asian Film Awards, famous Japanese actor Takeru Satoh, met with the media before the award ceremony. He said that he already felt very fortunate just to be nominated. The Japanese actor plays the wandering swordsman Himura Kenshin during the Meiji period in Japan in the movie “Rurouni Kenshin”, which is a film adaptation of the well-known manga of the same name.

“This character is really renowned. Therefore, I am worried that people will compare my performance in this film with those in the future and feel that I am not doing well enough. Hence, I will have to work extra hard in the future”, he says.

It was inevitable for Satoh to have some fighting scenes when playing swordsman Kenshin. But he does not really want to participate in action films too often.

“It is already enough to take part in an action movie once every four years. It is really very tiring”, he said.

Talking about Asian films, Satoh said that he has noticed many young actors in the continent that have outstanding acting skills. As a result, he says that he has to work even harder in Japan. The Japanese actor also said that he would be happy to be able to go to Hollywood and learn there or to have his films produced in Japan to enter Hollywood.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the beginning of his acting career, and Satoh said that he had been able to participate in many excellent projects in the previous decade. In the future, he would like to cooperate with more people from all over the world in film and television drama productions.
