A lot is often said about trying to develop Macau’s creative industries. Yet in such a small city dominated by tourism and gaming, it can sometimes seem that this is a very optimistic goal. Nonetheless, there is indeed some fine artistic talent in the midst of our tiny population, and while it is usually the more established artists that are in the spotlight, there are a number of very inspiring young people who are beginning to make their mark on the local art scene, each with their own unique style, approach and vision. This issue we meet with some of them to hear their stories, view their work and learn about their plans and hopes to pursue their creative journeys and become a significant part of Macau’s future visual arts landscape.
