Full Bloom

by
With Spring in full bloom, The Parisian Macao has been transformed into a romantic Tulip Garden, allowing guests to enjoy giant Instagrammable tulip installations and celebrate the beauty and vibrancy of the season.

Featuring 50 impressive 5-metre-tall tulip artworks around the Fontaine des Mers, each uniquely hand-painted by renowned Chinese artist Xuan Qing, the Tulip Garden brings the romance and charm of springtime to The Parisian’s magnificent French architecture.

To echo the Tulip Garden in the Rotunda, an beautiful matrix of golden tulips is being showcased at Level 3 of Shoppes at Parisian as well, also created by Xuan Qing.  Guests can enjoy the Floating Magic Tulip Garden along the 20-metre Avenue des Champs-Élysées, creating a truly fantastic visual impact.

“The Baroque architecture and the frescoes that cover the dome in the Rotunda give the space a strong emotion, a high, weighty and calm expression,” notes Xuan Qing.  “Using the shape of the hall, I used the Fontaine des Mers as part of the installation, surrounded by 50 giant tulips of unconventional proportions. I have deliberately gone ‘over the top’ in terms of the proportions and material detailing to make it visually large but not heavy.”

“The environment itself is an important part of public art and the work cannot exist as a stand-alone piece. So from the very beginning I was trying to figure out how to approach a space that was already so rich.”

Xuan Qing is a graduate of the China Academy of Art and London’s Chelsea College of Art and Design. She was a cooperative artist for LVMH Group and has had crossover collaborations with international brands including LOEWE, Jeep, Chrysler and ELLE, among others.

Comparing the two installations in their different locations, the artist comments: “If the giant tulips are ‘released’, then the gold suspended tulips are ‘collected’, with the miniature landscape of the blue garden at the bottom and the gold suspension framed in an invisible matrix, focused on the promenade.”

“Different spaces have their own visual properties, and when it comes to connecting existing forms, colours and forces with the installation, I needed to know how to control the visual discourse. The colour texture of the flowers in the Rotunda is expressive of the natural world, and in their softness they actually contain a huge amount of life energy. I kept the colours true to life, but made an artistic treatment of the proportions and the relationship between forms.

“On the other hand, the overall ‘form’ and ‘air’ of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is scattered. This is a top-lit space, where the gold colour is at its best when illuminated by natural top light, and the gold matrix easily becomes the focal point without any secondary light.”

Both installations are entirely handmade, from modelling to painting and staining, and the artist hopes they will create a memorable experience for visitors.

“People are easily attracted to things that are out of the ordinary, and their curiosity and desire to explore is naturally piqued. When one enters the installation garden, they are naturally involved in an ‘irrational’ experience and become part of this interesting proportional relationship,” Xuan Qing concludes.

At Level 3 of Shoppes at Parisian, guests can enjoy a fascinating Floral Projection Show at Place Vendôme. The projection on the ceiling showcases tulips transforming through various hues to a mesmerising gold to create a romantic and ethereal spectacle. The one-minute projection was created by Zhou Lin Wei, an emerging projection designer from JYULAM New Media Studio.  Zhou graduated from the Department of Open Media at the China Academy of Art, and has since cooperated with many well-known Chinese brands in creative design projects, including Intime Department Store’s “Louvre” VR art gallery in Ningbo.

To complement this colourful celebration of Spring, Sands signature restaurants will also be presenting delicious floral-inspired delicacies and themed afternoon tea sets, offering both visual and gastronomic delights until May 31.
