Exploring Macau’s Roots

"Exploring the roots of Macao, acting internationally and integrating the legacy of China and the West" continue to be the guiding principles of the Chinese Orchestra of Macau (OCHM) explains their annual concert program.
 
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the orchestra, which is preparing for the 2017-2018 season with the return of contemporary maestros with whom it has collaborated over the past three decades, and with new concert cycles.
 
The season starts on September 1st with the concert "A Ponte". OCHM together with conductor Yan Huichang will premiere the orchestra-commissioned works of composer Robert Zollitsch – "Huo shu yin hua" ("Shining Lights, Bright Flowers") and "Qiao" "). Yan Huichang will also present the works "Tang xiang" ("Resonance of the Tang Dynasty") by composer Wu Zhuoxian, and "Bei guan feng" ("Beiguan Music"), by composer Wang Yiyu.
 
Cellist Qin Li-Wei has also been invited to perform with the group.  Qin is well established on the international stage and was described by The New York Times as "having a style of interpretation with a softly beautiful tone, a perfect intonation and a robust technique".  The musician will perform the cello concert "The Dream of Zhuang Zhou".
 
Also on the annual program are the "Kingdom and Beauty" concerts, by Liu Sha and OCHM, and "The Legend of the Lotus" – Concert of Liu Xijin's Works by Hong Xia and OCHM. The season will close with "Silk Road to Europe" – Tsung Yeh and Chinese Orchestra of Macau.
 
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, OCHM is launching eight new concert cycles, including the "Classics Cycle" – to which contemporary conductors have been invited to collaborate with the orchestra from the beginning – "Musical Festivities", "Celestial Melodies of An Ancestral Heritage "," Strolling in the Garden, Listening to Music "," Musical Heritage "," Community Involvement with Music "and" Musical Museums ".
 
The "A Ponte" concert will take place at the Macau Cultural Center (CCM) Grand Auditorium at 8:00 pm on September 1 and tickets are available from the Macau Online Ticket Office.
