Le French May is returning this year for its 24th edition, and will explore the imagination of new rules, new stories and new worlds in paintings, sculptures, design, music, dance, theatres, cinema and gastronomy under the theme of Dreams and Wonders.

One of the program highlights is certainly the exhibition of masterpieces Claude Monet – The Spirit of Place at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from May 4 to July 11.  The exhibition will feature over 16 of Monet’s most emblematic artworks conserved in both public and private collections.

In Macau, the MGM Art Space will host a showcase of precious sculptures by Edgar Degas in Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion opening on April 29.  A total of 74 sculptures cast in bronze will bring visitors into the artist’s inner and mysterious world.

Meanwhile the Macau Museum will present Auguste Borget: A Painter – Traveller on the South China Coast.  In 1836, Borget embarked on a four-year voyage around the world, arriving on the South China Coast two years later where he spent time in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.  His pencil sketches, water colours, prints and oil paintings offer a unique view of the Pearl River Delta at that time.

On May 2, renowned pianist Michel Dalberto will perform at the Macau Military Club, and throughout the same month the UA Theatres at Galaxy Macau will screen seven films over seven days as part of the Dream of Another World – Utopias cinema program.

Established in 1993, Le French May is one of the largest cultural events in Asia. With more than 80 programs presented across two months, it has become an iconic part of Hong Kong and Macau’s cultural scene that attracts over one million visitors each year.

“With the aim of presenting every art form, everywhere in the city and for everyone to enjoy, I believe our festival has become a major player in the growing arts arena of Hong Kong and Macau,” Dr. Andrew Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Le French May announced at the official launch.  “Le French May continues to play an important role in nourishing our local artists as well as promoting art appreciation among the general public.”

Consul General of France Mr. Eric Berti added: “Presenting the diversity of the French creation as well as the excellence achieved by French artists, the festival is known as a true emblem of our country’s strive for innovation, diversity and excellence.”
