The Annual Cultural Carnival Syu Heoi Canton will kick off this Friday in Guangzhou and the Organizers of The Script Road – Macau Literary Festival were invited to give a public talk
Organized by second-hand bookshop Peter Cat’s Book since 2009, and supported by GLORIA 225, the annual cultural carnival Syu Heoi Canton will kick off this weekend in Guangzhou.
In its seventh edition, this year’s Syu Heoi Canton has invited more than 30 renowned guests from Hong Kong, Macau and other cities in Mainland China, including writers, journalists, editors, photographers, cartoonists and independent music planners, to gather in the capital city of Guangdong Province. The cultural carnival will bring the participants an unforgettable weekend with its colorful events including a second-hand book fair, seminars, workshops and performances, from November 26 to 27.
In the sprit of sharing good books, as well as reading experiences, every year, Syu Heoi Canton asks its audiences to bring along at least one second-hand book as an entry ticket, and also invites all its guests to bring their own second-hand books to the book fair.
This year, the carnival has also asked guests to choose 10 of their favorite books and to set up stalls in the second-hand book fair, to share their stories about the chosen books. By passing on second-hand books from one to another, the organizers hope the event will bring out the emotional connections between readers of the same book, as well as their love of books and joy of reading.
A special exhibition of Chinese cultural and art magazines from the 1920s and 1930s will be unveiled during the cultural carnival. And short trip on foot to those Qing dynasty historical academies in Guangzhou’s old town district will also be organized. The trip will start from the main venue of the Syu Heoi Canton, at No.225 Beijing Road, and go to some historical academies nearby, in order to take visitors to discover the historical and cultural venues of Guangzhou.
From Macau, two directors of The Script Road – Macau Literary Festival have been invited to the cultural event this year to give a public talk entitled “How to build a literary festival in a casino city” on November 26 at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Furthermore, on the night of 26th, renowned Chinese independent music planner A Fei, and art director of Modernsky (a leading record company in China) Zhang Xiazhou, will DJ at a special event, LP Big Party, bringing back the golden songs from the golden ages of LP records.
