For Ever
Jungle

In a statement, Jungle said their goal with the album For Ever was to create a “post-apocalyptic radio station playing breakup songs.”  The British funk collective released their second album, recorded in LA and London, on September 14th and it’s a sprawling production, dipping into different moods and sounds. Standout track? “Platoon”.

Marauder
Interpol

Interpol’s sixth album, Marauder takes the punchy sound of 2014 predecessor El Pintor and blends in darker, more menacing flourishes. Sixteen years after their acclaimed debut, Turn on the Bright Lights, they appear to have unexpectedly hit on a variety of ways to broaden their sound without losing its essence. Marauder exudes immediacy, even in its most oblique moments.

Hunter
Anna Calvi

There is a fresh urgency on British singer/Goth-rock guitar virtuoso Anna Calvi’s third album, Hunter.  Calvi’s ruminations on gender, sexuality, and identity are a guiding theme on her third album, as is freedom: “I believe that gender is a spectrum,” Calvi wrote on Instagram recently. “I believe that if we were allowed to be somewhere in the middle, not pushed to the extremes of performed masculinity and femininity, we would all be more free.”
