REMIND ME TOMORROW
Sharon Van Etten
Sharon Van Etten’s fifth album has been described as her “most atmospheric, emotionally piercing” release to date. While the New Jersey songwriter’s sound is as unmistakable as ever, the album’s 10 tracks inspired by Nick Cave, Portishead and Suicide – are unlike anything she’s ever done. Speaking to Rolling Stone, the musician confessed: “I have a lot more perspective,” speaking of the lyrics on the album. “It’s a reflection of where I am in my life – how happy I am, what a good place I’m in, and how fucked up the world is.”

TRIAGE
Methyl Ethel
Favouring ‘80s synth-pop over some of their more experimental aspects, the third record from Perth’s new pop masters promises to be ‘more reflective album than its predecessors, and explores the notion of coming of age’ according to singer and guitarist Jake Webb. And Webb should know, as the album was recorded entirely by him at his home in Perth, taking Methyl Ethel to great new heights with this grand effort.

LADYTRON
Ladytron
British indie/electronic Ladytron have made a comeback with their sixth album. “[The record comments] on all the social things that are going on right now, but I wanted to create a sense of disorientation and maybe claustrophobia, which I think a lot of people are feeling,” vocalist Helen Marnie, said in a recent interview. Ladytron’s hypnotic, icy, yet sleek sound are a perfect fit for the dark tone of this sound of the times.
