Classical Fantasies

Renowned Chinese Pianist Yundi Li holds his first solo live concert in Macau
by
Renowned Chinese pianist Yundi Li held his first individual live concert in The Venetian Theatre last month, featuring songs from his new album Emperor Fantasy.

Following his European tour, the Emperor Fantasy live concert will be held in over 20 cities in China, including many second-tier and third-tier cities.

Li made his debut performance ten years ago and is still a prominent player, especially in the eyes of thousands of young Chinese piano students. On a personal level, he believes he is still making progress in his profession.

“People have nuances of understanding of the same melody at different stages,” Li explains, “Beethoven’s melodies are good for pianists to think about in a three-dimensional way and with deeper emotions.”

Li also found inspiration on his European tour, visiting cities such as Vienna, Berlin and London. The experience of performing in many new concert halls inspired him to infuse new artistic concepts into his works. He hopes to bring these new feelings to his Chinese audiences.

“We did not and should not change our attitude toward classical music, no matter how the world changes, however, we should infuse new elements into classical music to make it easier to be transmitted to the public.”

As for holding live concerts in second-tier and third-tire cities in China, Li expressed confidence in Chinese audiences, noting that no matter how small a city is, every one has the right to enjoy classical music.
