A traditional Chinese ink painting, featuring the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the seashore along Sai Van lake, playfully depicts an imaginative coastline of Macau in the old times, when the town was not yet a concrete jungle.
This eye-catching artwork, created by respected local artist Lei Tak Seng, is currently on display at the new exhibition, “An Artistic Journey of Beautiful Macau” in the L2 Gallery arcade of MGM Macau, together with 32 other pieces by seven local contemporary artists.
The exhibition, organised by MGM Macau, is a sequel to its last exhibition “Discovery – A Creative Journey”, and showcases a collection of artworks, ranging from sculptures and paintings, to ink and colour on paper and photography.
“It creates an artistic atmosphere in our hotel and offers an opportunity for our visitors to experience our local cultural vibrancy – a fusion of the East and West, and also provides a platform where artistic offerings from Macau are on display for the world to appreciate,” Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Director of MGM, said at the opening ceremony.
“We have been a supporter of arts and culture for years. In this exhibition, viewers can experience a strong visual impact through the historic architectures and scenes of Macau that have shaped and moulded the local community over the past 500 years,” he added.
The seven artists, including Cai Guo Jie, Chan Hin Io, Choi Su Weng, James Chu, Lei Tak Seng, Lio Man Cheong and Tong Chong, represent the diversity and richness of artistic vision in Macau. They all share a common vision and seek to capture key moments of the city’s day-to-day life, evoking the collective memory of our culture through the medium of art.
This exhibition, bringing the old historical landscape of Macau and the modernity of the bustling urban city, is definitely a feast for art lovers from all walks of life. It is open to the public daily until June 23.
