Timed to coincide with Art Week and Art Basel’s Hong Kong edition, Art Central, in partnership with UOB, takes place from March 21-25 in a bespoke temporary structure right in the heart of Hong Kong.
Now in its third edition, Art Central is a platform for artworks from more established names to be exhibited alongside cutting-edge works by emerging artists. Staged within a 10,000 square metre architect-designed structure, the gallery line-up is complemented by a dynamic five-day programme that includes interactive installations, experimental films and performances, and panel discussions.
Billed as one of the most anticipated events on the city’s cultural calendar, the 2016 Fair welcomed over 32,000 international collectors, curators and art enthusiasts, adding to the energy of Hong Kong Art Week and firmly establishing itself as an unmissable art event.
The 2017 Fair will feature over 100 international galleries across its Central and Rise sectors. Strongly rooted in the region, 75 percent of galleries hail from the Asia-Pacific, presenting works ranging from ink and textile arts to photography, new media, and street art.

The Art Central performance programme is presented in collaboration with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, a renowned independent not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney. The critically curated programme will feature site-specific works by leading international artists, all working to question and challenge the conventional canon of art. The participatory performances by Anida Yoeu Ali, Tobias Gutmann, Uji Handoko Eko Saputro aka Hahan, Amrita Hepi and Enoch Cheng among others, encourage the audience to reconsider familiar objects and situations, challenging the viewer to rethink their expectations and inviting them to speculate on a spectacle.
Hong Kong-based emerging curator Jims Lam Chi Hang has unveiled his selection for the Art Central PROJECTS sector, featuring six large-scale installations situated throughout the Fair. Recognised as one of Forbes ‘30 under 30 in Asia’ in 2016, Lam stages a curated journey of large- scale installations united by the tactile characteristics of the works, allowing visitors a moment of contemplative retreat in the midst of Fair activities.
