Every summer the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) presents a vibrant and exciting program of children’s entertainment, workshops and activities to help keep little ones amused and enthralled throughout the school holidays.
This year, CCM is once again offering a great line up of talented artists from around the world as part of its ARTmusing Fun programme.
From Australia comes Carnival of Animals presented by Circa, a fascinating multimedia circus featuring juggling zebras, skipping kangaroos and many other creatures of land and sea, tumbling, flying, leaping and spinning their way through the many wondrous worlds of the animal kingdom, and taking audiences away on a trail of whimsical tales.
Next in the lineup is Chalk About performed by Curious Seed, an award-winning performance company formed in 2005 by Scottish choreographer and Artistic Director Christine Devaney. Join Christine and Niels on their journey as they ask some big questions. What makes us who we are? Is it where we are from? Or how we talk? Is it the way we dance? Our pasts, our futures…? And most importantly, doesn’t everyone like pizza?
Russian company Melting Point will perform their show Chook & Geek, a tremendously funny and fantastic expedition into the wild north combining puppet theatre and video installations. The aim of the performers is to present a non-verbal show which can be understood by audiences of different ages and languages without any special means of translation.
ARTmusing Fun caters for kids of all ages and Hup – Babies Musical Garden is an engaging performance especially for the babies and toddlers up to 24 months. Presented by Starcatchers in association with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, babies and toddlers are encouraged to come on stage for an intimate, classical music adventure as they discover sounds and shapes in a sonata for two violins, one cello and a very cheeky raccoon who challenges the little audience to follow the interaction between musical moods and rhythms.
Mr Satie Made in Paper is a production by Atofri, inspired by the music of French composer Erik Satie, often called “The Father of Modern Music”. In this award-winning production, children will witness magical images — created in a paper set design – while games and riddles combine with the quirky and witty music. Music, movement and art engage the young audience in a gentle and unimposing way, with live music played on various instruments and a variety of props used to tell the stories.
Finally comes the beloved children’s book series Spot the Dog by author Eric Hill, performed by Dutch company Stichting Theater Terra. In this beautifully staged production featuring live actors, puppets, and upbeat songs, Spot and his friend Helen are going to need the help of the audience to find all the lost farmyard animals and bring them back. Eric Hill’s Spot books have been published in over 10 languages throughout the last 30 years around the world, making Spot one of the most famous and beloved dogs in children’s literature.
